The purpose of this newsletter is to point out a few things that will help students with their computer problems and some trends that we are seeing in the IT Center that are problems.
- Shutting down your computer: Simply closing your screen is not shutting down the computer. Shut down your computer daily. Do not leave it in hibernate/sleep overnight
- Logging into your dsadmin account: When logging into your dsadmin account the username is .\dsadmin. It must be a backslash, not a forward slash.
- System restore: If you see the message when your computer boots up to do a system restore, DO NOT do it even though it says it is recommended. It will remove programs and reset passwords.
- System not charging: If a system appears to not charge, remove all power sources (including batteries) and put them back in. The system is more than likely stuck in a deep hibernate/sleep mode.
- The IT Center does not sell computer parts/accessories: If you need a new stylus or battery, those are sold in the bookstore
We also want to remind you of some of the computer policies that are covered in the handbook:
- Do not leave your computer unattended
- Do not play games during school hours (when homeroom starts until the last bell). Will result in JUG
- Do not go to websites like Facebook or Twitter. Will result in JUG.
Fun Fact of the month: Every day we create 2.5 quintillion (1018) bytes of data - so much that 90 percent of the world's data today has been created in the last two years alone.-IBM Global, CMO Study
