November
The purpose of this newsletter is to point out a few things that will help students with their computer problems and some trends that we are seeing in the IT Center that are problems.
- Changing passwords: You can’t change your password when you are off campus. It must be done when you are at school. If your computer was on when you got to school (this includes being in sleep/hibernate), reboot your computer and login. Follow the steps to change your password if it has expired
- Synchronization: It does NOT happen automatically! We have heard too many people think this only to not be able to retrieve a document. Go to the sync center in the control panel to ensure you have a good sync. There was an email sent out in late August to everyone on how to do this.
- Rebooting helps solve computer problems: If something will not open or work like it has before, do a reboot of your computer. That is one of the first things we will ask you to do if you have not done it before coming to us so that will save some time and maybe a trip to us.
- Keyboard nubs/nipples: We do not carry them this year because too many people were stealing them. If you need a new one, we will be happy to replace your keyboard.
- Backpacks: We are seeing a lot of backpacks that are torn. This happens because the backpack is generally overstuffed. Pay attention to how much is put into your backpack. Last month’s newsletter gave suggested guidelines on how to carry a backpack
We also want to remind you of some of the computer policies that are covered in the handbook:
- Do not install other operating systems on your tablet
- Do not store music or videos into your My Documents.
Fun Fact of the month: 86.6% of Internet users spend more than 6 hours a week online.
We are here to help and if you have any questions, please stop by the IT Center in room 208. We are open 7:30am to 3:30pm.
