December
The purpose of this newsletter is to point out a few things that will help students with their computer problems and some trends that we are seeing in the IT Center that are problems.
- Changing password before going on Christmas break: To prevent problems from logging into the network, email, and your computer when you return from break, it would be a good idea to change it before your last final. Passwords expire every 60 days.
- Loaners: You may not install programs that are not school related. Any damage to a loaner will result in a fine and JUG
- Email: You are only allowed 25mb of email. You will not be able to send emails if you are over that limit
- Accessories: We do not sell any items in the IT Center. The bookstore has stylus pens and batteries.
- Cant connect to Moodle or other De Smet websites? More than likely your DNS settings are changed due to a program installed on your computer.
- Dont wait until after Christmas break to get repairs done: Drop off your computer after your last final because there will be a large rush after you return back from break.
We also want to remind you of some of the computer policies that are covered in the handbook:
- Do not play games from the time homeroom starts until the last class has ended.
- The use of social networks like Facebook & Twitter while at school (before & after) is prohibited.
Fun Fact of the month: The world's first one gigabyte disk drive was announced in 1980. It weighed 550 pounds and had a price tag of $40,000.
We are here to help and if you have any questions, please stop by the IT Center in room 208. We are open 7:30am to 3:30pm.
Good luck the rest of the semester and good luck on your finals. Have a great Christmas break.
